The Congress of Peru dismissed its president Lady Camones on Monday, September 5, after the broadcast of recordings in which the leader of his right-wing party calls for the adoption of a redistricting law favoring him as a priority.

The motion of no confidence in the president of the Congress of the Republic, Lady Camones, has been approved, therefore the office declares the position vacant
," announced the vice president of the legislative body, Martha Moyano.
The motion collected 61 votes for, 47 against and 5 abstentions out of the 113 congressmen who took part in the vote.
Lady Camones, of the right-wing Alliance for Progress (APP), was chosen - supported by a large majority of her colleagues - to head the country's legislative body six weeks ago.
The initiators of the motion of no confidence argued that Lady Camones was placing Congress at the service of the special interests of the leader of her APP party, César Acuña.
New electoral district
At the origin of this initiative, audio recordings of a party meeting published last week by the news site Epicentro.
We hear César Acuña asking to give priority to a bill creating a new electoral district, which would allow him to win votes in the region of La Libertad, where he is running for governor in October.

The leak of these recordings caused a media scandal, with more and more voices denouncing an undermining of the neutrality of Congress during an election period.
The country's President Pedro Castillo himself has been the subject of several investigations for corruption and influence peddling since he came to power just over a year ago.
