The IDF today (Tuesday) allowed the publication of the intelligence letter from 2002 that warned that Syria was trying to build a nuclear reactor, five years later in Operation "Outside the Box", the Air Force destroyed the same reactor.

15 years ago today, the IDF attacked the Syrian nuclear reactor as part of Operation "Outside the Box".

For more than a decade, Israel did not take responsibility for the action, and it was only about four and a half years ago that the military censorship for the first time allowed it to be published that Israel carried out the action.

On the occasion of the anniversary of the historic operation, the IDF is publishing today for the first time documents related to the attack.

The army reveals that already in 2002, about five years before the attack, the research division of the AMN estimated that Syria was running a secret project - which was later revealed to be the nuclear reactor in Syria, and publishes a document proving this.

According to the document from September 2002, "recently it became known that within the framework of the Syrian Atomic Energy Commission, secret projects are underway (or at least were underway) that we were not aware of."

The same document states that "the information does not point to an active military nuclear program underway in Syria, but it does indicate occupation in areas that can contribute to the development of the program, and raises suspicion of the beginning of the development of such a program."

Finally, the incriminating intelligence information that proved that Syria is indeed developing a military nuclear program was obtained by the Mossad.
