Russia affirmed China's right to take necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity with regard to the Taiwan issue.
The TASS news agency quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying that "relations between the parties to the Taiwan Strait are a purely internal affair of China... and it has the full right to take adequate and necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity in this issue."
The principle of "one China" constitutes a fundamental pillar in China's relations with other countries, as the majority of countries in the world respect this principle.. Beijing stresses that the solution to the Taiwan issue should be achieved by the collective will of the Chinese people without any external interference.
