Denise S. wanted to sell a concert ticket on Ebay classifieds.

The supposed buyer stole 900 euros from her – and the scammers wanted even more money.

Munich – Stunned, Denise S. (32) from Trudering holds her cell phone in the camera.

The online portal eBay classifieds can be seen on the screen.

She wanted to sell a concert ticket there - instead she is now 900 euros poorer.

Scammers tricked her with a scam and ripped her off with her credit card.

Your money is gone.

Munich: Woman wants to sell Gabalier card – and is now 900 euros poorer

And this is how the trick went: On August 2nd, Denise S. received a message from a person who called herself Hannah.

She wanted to buy a ticket for the Andreas Gabalier concert from the woman from Truderinger for 35 euros.

The woman contacted Denise S. through a classifieds account that was in a male name.

She thought nothing of it.

You know families who use an account together, says Denise S.

The supposed buyer wanted to purchase the cards using the "Secure payment" function.

Ebay classifieds thus protects sellers and buyers.

Because the money is initially kept with a payment service provider.

The seller only gets it when the buyer confirms receipt of the goods.

Account data does not have to be exchanged for this.

Be careful with links: Secure payment on Ebay classifieds is different

For the purchase, the alleged buyer asked Denise S. for her cell phone number.

She sent it to her and shortly afterwards received a link via SMS.

Denise S. did not yet suspect anything.

Because the page that opened looked like the classifieds appearance down to the last detail.

In fact, it was a fake.

And now everything took its course: S. was supposed to enter her credit card number on the fake page in order to get her money.

She typed in the number and was then supposed to confirm the transaction in her Sparkasse app – but the fraudster or scammers already had access to her account.

"That's when I realized something was weird," says Denise S. In order to stop the fraud, she immediately had her Mastercard blocked - but too late.

Because she learned that someone had requested a total of 2,500 euros, 900 of which were debited – to a payment service provider.

It usually cannot be booked back from there.

Ebay classifieds fraud in Munich: the police are still investigating

In the case of Denise S., the 900 euros are probably gone.

She reported the fraud on the same day, the police are still investigating.

When the card was blocked, no one could tell her why 900 euros were debited but other transactions could be stopped.

Denise S. had contacted the responsible company, Bayern-Card-Services (BCS).

According to a BCS letter to Denise S., she acted negligently, and for this reason the money was not reimbursed.

And even Ebay classifieds does not pay for the damage in such cases, according to a spokesman for the

Denise S. would like classifieds users to be alerted when the words "Pay safely" are written in the chat.

It is known that fraudsters trick users with supposedly secure payments, according to the Ebay spokesman.

You only warn when exchanging sensitive data such as IBAN or telephone numbers.

Denise S. knows that she was careless.

She wants to be more careful, she says.

Now she knows the tricks.
