The Board of Directors of the Fund for Mitigating the Effects of Drought and Natural Disasters on Agricultural Production agreed to compensate 16,168 affected farmers with an amount of 4.5 billion pounds in 9 governorates.
During a meeting held today under the chairmanship of the Minister of Agriculture, Eng. Muhammad Hassan Qatana, at the Ministry’s building, the council agreed to compensate the affected farmers in Deir Ezzor governorate as a result of dust and rain storms, winds and torrential rains that occurred at the end of April and the beginning of May of this year on wheat, barley and tomato crops, where the number of farmers reached The affected people are 486 farmers, with a damaged area of 3,481 dunums, with a total amount of 4,749,482 pounds.
He also agreed to compensate the affected farmers in the governorate of Damascus countryside, “al-Zabadani and Al-Qatifah areas” as a result of the frost that occurred at the beginning of April on cherry and apricot trees “Baal Wasqi”, pears and peach.
The council agreed to compensate the affected farmers in Tartous governorate “Safita region” as a result of the cold that occurred at the beginning of May on the apple crop. At the beginning of May, the number of the affected farmers reached 116 farmers with an area of 236 dunums, with a compensation amount of 2565367 pounds.
The council agreed to compensate farmers affected by the cold in Hama governorate in the area of Barshin, Tin al-Sabil, Bashnin and Tamouzah at the beginning of May for the apple crop. Aleppo in the Manbij and Deir Hafer regions in mid-May on the irrigated wheat crop, where the number of affected 369 farmers with a damaged area of 14,502 dunums and an amount of 22,2517,136 pounds.
The council agreed to compensate farmers affected by the cold in As-Suwayda Governorate at the end of April for crops of apples, pistachios, almonds, cherries, pears, peaches, peaches, apricots, wheat, barley and lentils. Lattakia governorate in the Saraya unit and the village of Al-Midan at the end of June, where the number of affected farmers reached 39, with an area of 70 dunums, with an amount due, 1311916 liras, in addition to compensation for the farmers affected as a result of the frost that occurred in Hama governorate, Al-Ghab region in mid-March, on the crops of spring potatoes, peas and beans. The number of affected farmers reached 413, with a damaged area of 3020 dunums, and an amount owed of 227,838,100 pounds.
The council agreed to compensate the affected farmers in Homs governorate as a result of the thunderstorm laden with hail that occurred in the areas of Tel Kalakh and the Western Center at the beginning of May for the apple crop. Homs Governorate in mid-March on the almond crop, where the number of affected farmers reached 8101 farmers with an area of 293509 dunums, amounting to 3.71 billion.
The council also agreed to compensate farmers affected by the spring frost that occurred in Tartous governorate in the regions of Tartous and Safita in mid-March for the spring potato crop, as the number of affected farmers reached 171 farmers with a damaged area of 946 dunums at an amount of 121053763 pounds.
At the end of the meeting, Minister Qatana confirmed the unification of production costs in all governorates according to the standard criteria specified in the need schedule issued by the Agricultural Cooperative Bank, and the adoption of the marketing price when studying costs in a way that guarantees the right of the farmer and granting compensation within a short period from the date of the damage, which enables the farmer to renew his damaged crop .
