The accusation: The rider is said to have hit the horse at a tournament in Brunnthal.

The animal welfare organization PETA is now filing a complaint.

Brunnthal – What happened at a dressage tournament at the Gut Riedhausen equestrian center in Brunnthal at the end of June?

A rider is accused of mistreating his horse on the warm-up arena in front of an audience.

The animal protection organization PETA is now filing a criminal complaint, the state commission of the Bavarian Riding Association is trying to find out the truth.

During a dressage test in Brunnthal, a so-called Prix de Saint-Georges, the rider is said to have beaten the horse "brutally and completely unnecessarily and deliberately in front of an audience".

An anonymous source told the St. Georg horse magazine, the magazine reports online.

The animal welfare organization said the incident had also been reported to PETA.

Brunnthal: hit on the head with a riding crop?

The accused rider is said to have asked for a second riding crop (flexible stick) with which he is said to have hit the horse on the head.

The state commission of the Bavarian Riding and Driving Association has now convened a disciplinary committee.

This is confirmed by Thomas Schreder, Managing Director of the association in Munich.

"Information and statements are now being collected and witnesses are being heard," says Schreder.

He does not want to say anything about the ongoing process.

According to his statement, it is the first incident of this kind in Riedenhausen.

PETA has already filed a criminal complaint with the Munich I public prosecutor's office.

The organization announced.

She demands that the man be banned from riding.

From the point of view of the animal rights activists, a criminal complaint was necessary "because the so-called state commission is a purely internal institution of the equestrian industry and not an official public institution".

Beating allegation in equestrian sport: behavior "definitely not common"

The director of the said tournament, Ulrich Rasch, does not want to comment on the incident.

Only so much: The behavior of the rider was "definitely not usual".

The rider is not from Brunnthal, so Rasch.

Another allegation after the tournament: A judge at the preparation area is said to have been present at the suspected abuse and not to have intervened against the abuse.

judge responsible for supervision

Explanation: A judge must always be present at the warm-up and preparation areas.

If the rider hits a horse or treats it in an unsportsmanlike manner, he must warn the rider or even exclude him from the test.

Only, you know each other in the scene and some judges like to be invited to tournaments because of the opportunity to earn money.

If he is too critical, it may be that the organizer no longer invites him - and is also undesirable next to the warm-up arena.
