The Winnetou debate is still heating up tempers.

Hubert Aiwanger now burst his collar on Twitter – eloquently he shoots at the “bag of lies”.

Munich – The Winnetou debate has been going on for a little over two weeks now.

It all started with the Ravensburger publishing house's decision to withdraw two Winnetou children's books from the range after there was criticism of the stories surrounding the narrative.

This is cultural appropriation and contains racist clichés.

The discussion about the correctness of the Ravensburger decision quickly developed into a heated debate in which politicians also spoke up.

Among other things, Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder clarified his point of view on Twitter - and shortly afterwards followed up verbally.

Now Söder's deputy, Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger, also spoke up.

He wrote on Twitter: "It's interesting how some are now backtracking on 'Woke' and claiming 'nobody wanted to abolish #Winnetou' (because they didn't expect the widespread public outrage).

Of course you wanted that, you bag of lies!"

As a comparison, he added the famous lie before the Wall was built in the GDR that no one had the intention of building a wall, said GDR head of state Walter Ulbricht at the time - a wall was built a short time later.

Aiwanger takes on critics on Twitter: "You got it in the mouth"

A little later, Aiwanger retweeted his previously posted tweet – and followed up in the comments.

A user ironically criticized that Aiwanger (and party) play the really important issues in addition to the energy crisis, war in Ukraine and the climate crisis by saving Winnetou.

To which Aiwanger replied: You "Woken" patrons have started nagging about #Winnetou and Indians.

Don't wear it as a disguise at carnival etc. Now that you've been smacked in the mouth by the general public, you say sheepishly and seeming indignant, "we have more important issues after all".

Aiwanger's anger tweets - and the reaction on Twitter

But that's not all.

The 51-year-old also replies to other users who are critical of Aiwanger's tweets.

He always addresses the "Woken".

He accuses them of wanting to abolish Winnetou before, but now hiding behind lies after embarrassing themselves.

But like the reaction to Söder's tweets, the answers to Aiwanger's statements were critical, at least on Twitter.

The tenor: Aiwanger gives false facts, would exploit the debate in a populist manner and would fall for an artificially generated shitstorm.

When asked why Aiwanger retweeted his own tweet himself, he left unanswered.
