In Mexico, human rights defenders and national and international organizations held a peaceful protest on Tuesday at a time when the Senate is discussing whether or not the National Guard will be attached to the Ministry of Defense.
Some experts consider that the initiative, proposed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, points to a militarized system of public security.
The president himself assures that he has changed his mind about the use of the military to take charge of security activities after seeing the increase in crime.
