The audience of the Fifth Suwayda Short Film Festival this evening watched Syrian and Arab films that dealt with social and humanitarian issues as part of its continuous shows for the fourth day on the stage of the Palace of Culture in the city of Suwayda.
The audience was on a date with the Moroccan film (Black) by director Bilal Al-Taweel, which raises social issues and how the ongoing dispute and quarrel between parents can turn the lives of the children who are in need of their care and attention into hell, followed by the Egyptian film (Virtual Reality) by director Wael Abu Talib, which is presented in a fantasy style The problem of people being immersed in mobile phones and their technologies, and what their applications provide from a virtual world to the extent that one of them is able to hide from the surroundings of its holder.
The Iraqi animated film (The Journey), directed by Wad Al-Rubaie, sheds light on the suffering of human migrants across the seas, including children, and the accidents and dangers of drowning, with different scenarios, one of which is the result of today’s screenings with the Syrian movie (Deep Sleep), directed by Khaled Othman and produced by the General Film Organization. Which monitors the story of a family consisting of a retired couple and their young immigrant son who is married abroad to see the repercussions and effects of the war on the lives of these people, especially the father, the film director, who is obsessed with death and survival at the same time, advancing the saying that whoever loses the memory of the past will lose the present and the future.
Both members of the organizing committee, Issam Hamadeh and Faryal Zidan, said that the festival in its current session was different and distinguished in terms of the value of films, shows and Arab participation, which reflects cinematic youth experiences with different themes and directorial and artistic visions.
The Fifth Suwayda Festival for Short Films, organized by the National Film and Television Production in cooperation with the Directorate of Culture and the Film Club, will conclude the activities of its fifth session tomorrow, Thursday, with the presentation of three films and the announcement of the results of its competition for the best film, script, directing, photography and actor.
