Rose hips are bursting with vitamin C, so why not grow them yourself?

The plant requires little care and thanks you with numerous fruits.

Most people know rose hips in the form of fruit tea or spread and may not even have a specific plant in mind.

But the rose hips, which belong to the stone fruits, can also be grown relatively easily yourself - September is ideal here.

Rose hips come from the rose family and are often mistakenly classified as berries.

They contain 426 milligrams of vitamin C per 100 grams and are therefore a local superfood.

The pretty dog rose, which is relatively undemanding to its soil and the environment, grows branched and dense, which makes it suitable as a privacy screen or small hedge.

The hardy plant should best be planted in September.

To do this, proceed as follows:

  • The location should be sunny, although the plant also thrives in semi-shade.

  • Note that you can only plant seedlings that have already been grown in September.

    As

    Gartenjournal

reports, you should loosen the subsoil well beforehand and enrich the soil with compost or mineral fertilizer.

  • Then dig a planting hole large enough for the root ball.

Then the rosehip is placed in the hole and filled with the compost-soil mixture.

  • Water the plant vigorously.

  • In the coming late summer, the first fruits will appear, which can be harvested from October.
