A vacationer from Germany had an accident while hiking on the Kitzbüheler Horn (Tyrol).
The man apparently wanted to catch his falling wife.

For unknown reasons, the wife lost her balance and fell backwards.
Her husband tried to catch her and fell himself. The woman (71) fell over a path and landed on the slippery terrain below and was injured.
Her husband (75) also fell over the climb and only came to rest in a steep gully after about 100 meters.
Witnesses made an emergency call, reports the Tyrol police.
A rescue helicopter flew the injured vacationer to the St. Johann hospital.
Her husband succumbed to his severe injuries at the scene of the accident and was rescued by the police helicopter.

According to several people, an important witness had observed the entire accident, but left the scene of the accident after he was unable to provide any further help.
The Kitzbühel police are asking these witnesses and others who observed the accident to report.
