The Last of Us is one of Sony's best games, and is considered perfect and polished and very few games reach its level.

There is no doubt about that.

So it's not too surprising when Sony decided that it wanted to remake one of its most amazing games.

Oh, actually it's weird.

Because this is a game that is only a decade old, which is already being marketed for the third time.

within a decade.

So it's true, the remake is designed to take the amazing game that was originally released for the PlayStation 3 and adapt the graphics and the game experience to the standards of the new generation and the PlayStation 5. There is no doubt that it manages to impress and excite this time as well, but is it really worth its high price tag?

Depends on who you ask.

The plot of the game: The Last of Us has never looked more beautiful and human

I don't really think I need to go into detail about the plot of TLOU, but here's an ALM for those who are just coming in: A zombie epidemic has broken out in a world that has become post-apocalyptic. Joel is one of the survivors who needs to be taken in by Ellie, a 13-year-old girl who is immune and resistant to the zombies and the infectious plague. , to an underground organization that is interested in finding a cure that will save the future of humanity. During the journey, a close bond develops between the two and the real lesson is the friendships we made during the journey and yadda yadda. Hooray.

Despite the cynical way in which I describe the plot, this is one of the games that drew me the most into them.

And it wasn't because of the gameplay, but the amazing, painful, and beautiful story that Naughty Dog worked on.

And be sure that the remake presents the whole business in a much sharper, polished and mesmerizing way.

The graphic upgrade in the remake definitely helps highlight all the emotions in the faces of the characters.

The accuracy of the animations, the details and the physics of the environments never stop contributing to the story and presentation.

It is definitely a more complete version of the game if you have to compare the whole thing to the original.

I will always prefer gameplay over graphics, but wow, you can't help but be amazed at the beauty and realism that is shown to you on the screen.

Gameplay: Not too much new under the sun

One of the disappointing elements for me is that in terms of gameplay, for the most part, this remake is very similar to the original.

But the battle system is a little more responsive and smooth as it was in The Last of Us 2. Some claim that the enemies are smarter, but I didn't necessarily notice.

A lot of players thought pre-launch that Naughty Dog would add the ability to crawl and dodge like it did in the second game, but this requires redesigning the stages and adapting to an additional play style.

This work is probably too ambitious for this remake, so you won't find far-reaching changes here.

It's the little details that make the difference during gameplay.

The support of the DualSense controls is very broad in the game and greatly contributes to the feeling that draws you into the game: raindrops, the resistance of the R2 buttons when you shoot a bow and arrow or a shotgun during battles.

So as mentioned, you will not find far-reaching changes, but as with the plot: this is definitely the complete way to play the game.

The game modes, and the new options (and those that are missing)

The remake of TLOU will offer us two game modes to play with: Fidelity where you can play at 4K resolution at 30 frames, or Performance where the resolution is dynamic and will adjust itself between 4K and 1440p at 60 frames per second.

Supporting TVs can also unlock the frame rate.

As befits Sony's exclusive games of recent years, the TLOU remake comes with a slew of new options that should make the whole thing more accessible for people with disabilities.

Whether it is changes in the control of the controller itself or tools based on sound and visuals that are intended for people with disabilities and impairments.

This is an important step that Sony advocates and proves that gaming is for everyone.

Aim for this move.

Unlike the original and the remastered version, the remake does not include the game's multiplayer.

Although I don't play online too much (certainly not on the PlayStation) and it bothers me less, but it's not too much for Sony to take more money for less content.

I'm sure there are players who really liked the multiplayer of the original game and will be upset about the move.

One can only take solace in the fact that Sony has said it will release it in the future as a Stand Alone, hopefully free, and based on skin sales without treasure chests.

And that leads us to the next point.

Is it worth the $70?

Even though I got the review copy for free, I can't really ignore the fact that the average consumer does pay out of pocket, and $70 is not a fun price tag at all.

Certainly for a game that is being marketed for the third time, and certainly for a game that is a whole decade old and it has completely worn out even on PS4.

So the bottom line:

if you already have the remastered version I really don't see any reason to purchase the remake.

Not at the current price.

You are fanboys of the brand and of Sony and you just want to play the game, go for it.

I understand the need, I don't necessarily agree with it.

But for the average player?

Wait for the discount.

Or it will come to PS Plus.

To market a game for the third time and to charge full price for it every time (and this time the price is also inflated by another 10 dollars because it's next gen) is definitely a shocking step.

It would have been easy to give a discount to those who had already purchased the remastered version.

But if this is your first time playing?

Yalalek, have fun fathers.

It's an amazing game, and it's definitely an amazing version.

Just not my fourth time.

In conclusion

When the rumors started popping up online about this remake, I didn't want to believe it was true.

"What situation have we come to that we need a remake of a decade old game? And released for the third time?"

I thought.

Then it turned out to be real, and Sony got me into a serious fight with myself.

On the one hand, it is a finished and polished product for an amazing game that definitely manages to make it feel much more "complete" and provide a renewed and enjoyable experience.

But on the other hand, you can't ignore the price, and the thought that with services like Microsoft's Game Pass (which brings exclusive games on the day of launch) it really sucks to pay the 70 dollars these days for a game that most players have already finished several times.

on its two versions.

At the end of the day the choice is yours.

I know personally, I would wait.
