The cult series, starring Ana Claudia Talancón and Martín Altomaro, leaves the small screen to resume its history in the cinema 10 years later

Ana Claudia Talancón walks through the Plaza Luis Cabrera and it would seem that time has not passed.

Neither for her or for television memory.

A light drizzle falls and she seeks refuge in a Starbucks near Orizaba and Guanajuato streets, in the Roma Norte neighborhood of Mexico City.

Her presence does not go unnoticed.

Passers-by are excited to see her, they ask for photos, and even the employees of the cafeteria leave their work for a moment and pose for a

selfie

.

She sits.

In front of her, crossing the park, is the Non Solo restaurant, where 11 years ago, in the fiction of

Soy tu fan

, Charly met Nico and was disconcerted by his mythical phrase that gave rise to their romance: "You already have a theme for Today, tell him that you met the love of your life.”

The expectation is not for less.

Ten years later, the actress from Cancun once again gets into Charly's skin with Martín Altomaro, who plays Nico, in addition to the original cast, Maya Zapata, Johanna Murillo, Gonzalo García – to name a few – to make the leap from the small screen to the cinema with the film

Soy tu fan

, a work created by Dolores Fonzi and Constanza Novick, who return as producers and in charge of the script, a task that Laura Paredes joins for this new installment.

The series, despite having only 26 episodes –broadcast in two seasons between 2010 and 2012–, generated a fan base for this classic love story (or not so much), which dealt with the transition from youth to adulthood and themes close to the public about what this path implies, as well as the adventures of friends and family around these characters.

“It seems to me that today, more than ever, being able to go through certain difficult stages that happen in anyone's life, of confusion, indecision, anger, frustration;

Suddenly you manage to understand that life goes up, down and goes around a thousand times.

The flavor of oneself grabs one more and in this way the actors, characters and the public of

Soy tu fan

have evolved .

We are all evolving together”, affirms the actress to EL PAÍS.

Despite having ended more than a decade ago, the series, considered a cult production among the Mexican audience, continued to gain followers throughout this time, who made social networks their base of operations to ask for a resolution to Charlie and Nico's story.

In

Soy tu fan: Lapelicula

, directed by Mariana Chenillo –who returns as director–, the cast meets in Acapulco for the wedding of Diego (Gonzalo García) and Rocío (Maya Zapata), and everything happens 10 years after the end of the Serie.

Charly meets Nico again and it seems that since the last time they saw each other, things haven't turned out the best way.

There, together they will relive iconic moments of love and reflection;

adding new adventures to the story.

The cast had a virtual meeting on May 4, 2020, through the Facebook streaming platform, to chat with the public who had followed them during this decade.

In the words of Talancón, this meeting that triggered the rumor mill about a possible third season, was the seed that gave the green light to the film.

“We had been wanting to do the series for a long time and after this Facebook Live, in which we had thousands of followers in a matter of minutes, we realized that we were not crazy for thinking about what everyone was telling us.

Everyone was willing to join to return to the project and that ended up uniting us, ”says the also producer of the film, smiling.

Constanza Novick, co-creator with Fonzi of the Mexican adaptation and of the homonymous Argentine series, explains that, after a long time waiting, "the planets aligned", the necessary parts were put together and in a very short time they were already filming in Acapulco during the pandemic.

The screenwriter describes the experience as "magical" because of the continuity that not only allowed the film to be finished, but also to make a third season that is already confirmed.

“We finished filming and now we are just going to start editing it.

The film is like a bridge between what happened, with the previous seasons, and what is coming in the future.

The movie has the same spirit as the series, but it also lets in a person who doesn't know anything about the above and invites him to watch a comedy."

The challenge, according to Novick, was to maintain the spirit of

Soy tu fan

and at the same time tell an ensemble story in 90 minutes, which maintains the structure of a film, but at the same time is faithful to the characters.

“We didn't question ourselves so much, as we had very little time, we did what we thought was fun, what resonated with us, what we thought was going to be good.

There is a lot of me, of the heart and of Dolores [Fonzi].

Of our history and of the series, that we started here [in Argentina] and that traveled.

I know that there is a lot of expectation and that a long time has passed, ”says the producer.

For Talancón it was interesting to embody a "new Charly", who is no longer stuck with the thesis like 10 years ago.

On the contrary, according to her account, she is doing well at her job, but she also has problems.

She made peace with the bad decisions she made in her life, she is still adventurous, she feels fun, she still has her friends.

“She is a more complex character, but is she now decided on the love of her life or not so much?” She answers with a mysterious tone, playing with the question that fans have been asking for a decade and that will finally be answered this September 8th.

“I am not going to give

spoilers

, but I see her more focused and better than ever”, she ends with a smiling face.
