Survey on new mobility habits in Greater Paris: there is still a lack of volunteers

2022-09-08T10:37:24.849Z

A distribution of flyers must take place from this Friday to complete the panel of 4,000 Ile-de-France residents participating in the major study.

Fewer people on the trains and metros, peaks of traffic jams on the roads on different days and times, bicycles and scooters galore in Paris and the major cities on the outskirts... There is no doubt that the health crisis has changed the mobility landscape in Greater Paris.

But, concretely, what has really changed in the behavior of Ile-de-France residents in terms of travel?

It is to answer this question, and adapt the offer to these new behaviors, that a vast study has been launched among 4,000 Ile-de-France residents by the Paris Region Institute under the aegis of the Ile-de-France region and in partnership with several Greater Paris transport players such as the RATP, Transilien and the city of Paris.

The Paris-region institute is launching a vast survey of 4,000 Ile-de-France residents who will be equipped with a GPS box.

Objective: to find out more about new mobility habits in Ile-de-France

First step: the call for volunteers among the inhabitants of Greater Paris and Ile-de-France ready to equip themselves with a GPS unit for a week in order to monitor and then analyze their daily movements.

Started during the summer holidays on social networks and the Internet, this "recruitment" aims to build up a pool of candidates from which the 4,000 participants will ultimately be selected.

We are looking for workers, seniors and job seekers

"To date, we have collected 10,800 pre-registrations", explains the Paris-Region Institute.

A real success.

But these candidates must correspond to a representativeness of the Ile-de-France population and therefore to geographical criteria but also to pre-established age and socio-professional categories.

The problem is that it still lacks representatives of three of these categories: workers, seniors aged 66 and over and job seekers.

“We are looking for around 400 of each, to complete the current pre-registrations”, specifies the institute (*).

Distribution of paper flyers highlighting the telephone number to call should make it possible to reach these people who are sometimes more difficult to approach and convince.

They will take place this Friday in Paris-Saint-Lazare and Corbeil, Sunday in Saint-Denis and Monday again in Essonne (**).

Once the 4,000 testers have been drawn, by the end of September, each participant will receive a GPS device between mid-October 2022 and mid-March 2023, a device that they undertake to activate and take with them to each of his journeys for 7 days, including weekends.

Then comes the time for data collection and analysis.

The institute ensures absolute respect for the anonymity of volunteers.

With feedback on the lessons to be learned just three months after the end of the experience.

A shortened time required by the urgency to adapt transport policy to the new uses of those who use them.

(**) Flyers will be distributed this Friday, September 9 in Corbeil-Essonnes from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and at the station and metro access to Paris Saint-Lazare from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.

As well as this Sunday, September 11 on the Saint-Denis market from 10 a.m. to noon and Monday, September 12 for 3 hours between the industrial zone of Grigny, Bondoufle and Fleury-Mérogis in Essonne.
