The Poloniny National Park issued a warning about wild animals on its Facebook page.
During the trip to the border area, the young tiger was observed around the Slovak villages of Brezovec, Klenová and Ulič.
Originally, the predator lived in a zoo in eastern Ukraine.
However, due to the ongoing war, it had to move to a new home in the west of the country, the park's director tells a Slovak news agency.
Anyone who sees the big cat should behave carefully and not spread panic.
"Working with our assigned veterinarian, we are prepared to capture the tiger for transfer to a government facility that specializes in such cases."
Tiger erupted in Ukraine – authorities warn residents
Like Slovakia's national park, the municipality of Ulič appeals to people on Facebook: "We ask you to be vigilant and limit movement outside your homes.
If you see the animal, call the police or the village mayor.” Little did a woman know that her Maine Coon tomcat would one day turn into half a tiger.
Last but not least, the police of the Slovak Republic draw attention to the danger posed by the tiger.
All border checkpoints near the eastern border, police patrols in the border area, mayors of border villages and representatives of hunting associations have been informed about the escaped cat.
"We urge residents to be more careful and not approach the animal for their own safety," the officials wrote on the Facebook page.
