The presidents of Colombia and Venezuela reported this Friday that the common borders between the two countries will reopen on September 26.

Through a Twitter message, the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, said that, as a first step, the air connection and cargo transport between our countries will be resumed, and confirmed the government's commitment "to reestablish brotherly relations."

On September 26 we will open the border between Colombia and Venezuela.

In the same social network, the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, added that flights between Caracas and Bogotá, and between Valencia and Bogotá, will be resumed.

And he concluded by saying that "the exchange and cooperation between our peoples are starting off on the right foot".

At the end of August, both governments began the reestablishment of their diplomatic relations with the appointment of ambassadors in both countries.

Diplomatic ties between Colombia and Venezuela had been broken in 2019, when the government of the then Colombian president, Iván Duque, recognized opposition leader Juan Guaidó as president of Venezuela.
