Leave the car behind and explore the region by bike, on foot or by public transport: District-wide campaigns next Sunday will show what options there are and what the whole thing can look like.

Fürstenfeldbruck – Then the second edition of the car-free Sunday will take place after the premiere last year.

Not moving the car for a day is an idea, emphasizes Gottfried Obermair.

"It is not a car driving ban that we are pronouncing here," says the chairman of the Energy Transition Association Goal 21. Rather, the aim is to encourage people to think about future mobility, climate protection and leisure activities without polluting the environment.

Since the start of the Ukraine war, the topic of "saving" has been on everyone's lips.

With campaigns such as the car-free Sunday, you can practice this once again and save fuel.

program of action

Together with the city of Fürstenfeldbruck and the district office, a colorful action program for the car-free Sunday has been put together over the past few weeks and months.

According to Obermair, around 30 events are now on the agenda.

By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular

FFB newsletter.)

"You have to take advantage of the leisure activities we have locally," says Max Keil, Vice-Chairman of Goal 21, when presenting the program.

“You can do what’s on offer on Sunday every Sunday – you don’t always have to go to Garmisch.” Destinations on September 11 include the bird park in Olching, the peppermint museum in Eichenau and the Jexhof near Schöngeising (box).

Radl rally

The focus of the car-free Sunday is a big bike rally to the monastery in Fürstenfeld.

The cycling club ADFC leads individual tours that start in Dachau (10 a.m.), Landsberg am Lech (8.15 a.m.) and Gilching (9 a.m.).

There is also a guided tour for cargo bikes (Puchheim, 9.30 a.m.).

In front of the monastery church, the cyclists will be blessed by Susanne Parche (Pastor Wörthsee) and Dean Wolfgang Huber (Mammendorf) at around 11.45 a.m.

The car-free Sunday is also a perfect start for the European Mobility Week, says Monserrat Miramontes, Mobility Manager of the City of Fürstenfeldbruck.

The Aumühlenplatz in front of the city library will be creatively painted and redesigned as a traffic calming measure.

At the same time, cargo bike fun is taking place on the monastery grounds.

During the competition, visitors can use their bikes to transport objects through the course and find out more about the various models, and in some cases even test drive them.

"Some mayors will also compete against each other with their cargo bikes," reveals Miramontes.

Because the zero-euro ticket

"Especially in times when you want to leave the car at home to save more fuel, the cargo bike comes in handy," says ÖDP city councilor Alexa Zierl.

She herself offers a free rickshaw taxi on car-free Sundays.

But not only by bike, you can also use public transport on a car-free Sunday.

Citizens can ride for free on 16 bus lines.

"So to speak, a 0-euro ticket," says Jutta Remsing from the public transport department of the Fürstenfeldbruck district office.

For example, 860 stations along the line, such as the old Germeringer village church of St. Martin or the peppermint museum in Eichenau, can be visited by bus.

From the farm shop to the animal shelter: around 30 events in the district

In addition to the big bike rally, other tours will take place on the car-free Sunday, September 11th.

For example, the farm shop bike tour from Agenda 21. "Last year we were out and about in the west - this year in the east," explains Michaela Bock.

Participants should see which producers and products are available in the district and that they are not far away.

Another tour leads past wind turbines and solar parks as well as to the Oskar-von-Miller hydroelectric power station.

Also accessible by bike and open on Sundays: Tierfreunde Brucker Land, Pfefferminzmuseum Eichenau, Vogelpark Olching.

The first "Parking Day" takes place in the municipality of Emmering.

Parking lots along the main road are closed to cars.

Instead, various actions that are possible on these square meters are shown.

FC Emmering and the Madlverein take part around the town hall square with activities such as a bobby car race for young and old.
