Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin and Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Syria Geir Pedersen discussed the situation in Syria and focused on the importance of advancing the political process led and implemented by the Syrians themselves under the auspices of the United Nations and in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
A statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry said today that the two sides discussed, during their meeting in Geneva yesterday, the prospects for activating comprehensive humanitarian assistance for all Syrians, including refugees and the temporarily displaced, without discrimination and preconditions, on the basis of the basic principles of humanitarian assistance and with full respect for the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.
