Asked about this by a journalist from the American magazine
Men's Health
, of which he is on the cover of the October 2022 issue, Zac Efron refuted these speculations, explaining that his facial transformation was due to an unfortunate accident.

Physiotherapy
"The masseter muscle, used for chewing, works with the other facial muscles 'like a symphony,'" he continues, explaining that because of his injury, "the muscles inside his face and jaw had to compensate”.
The ex-Disney star specifies that he works with a specialist and practices physiotherapy in order to remedy this.
“The masseters just got bigger,” he claims with a shrug, “they just got really, really big.”
Zac Efron claims he wasn't even aware of these viral rumors about his face (he says he "generally avoids" social media), until his mother called him to ask if he had undergone plastic surgery.
