Serious riots overshadowed 1. FC Köln's game in Nice.

The Cologne police chief Falk Schnabel wants to catch the perpetrators - with the help of the FC fans.

Cologne – The first day of the UEFA Europa Conference League was supposed to be a football festival for the traditional club 1. FC Köln, but instead it turned into a day to forget.

Not because of what's happening on the pitch, but off it.

Because before the game between FC and OGC Nice kicked off, there were far-reaching riots.

A lot of chaotic people went at each other.

The result: at least 32 injured.

The Cologne police are now helping to clarify the events, reports 24RHEIN.

After the "fan" riots in Nice, the French public prosecutor's office launched the investigation.

The authority also works with the police from Cologne.

On Thursday evening (September 8th) a “special organizational structure was set up and initial research was carried out,” said a spokesman on Friday (September 9th).

Cologne's chief of police, Falk Schnabel, was meanwhile "horrified" by the pictures of the riots at the Conference League game in Nice.

“It is once again becoming clear that we must keep violent criminals away from the stadiums.

The video recording, on which the fall of a spectator from the stands is cheered, makes me stunned," he is quoted as saying in a statement.

Riots in Nice: Cologne police asks FC fans to submit video recordings

The Cologne police chief is now asking all fans who have taken pictures of violent crimes to forward them to the Cologne police.

"They help us to identify violent offenders and to protect peaceful spectators, especially in the second leg," explained Falk Schnabel.

One will now "do everything to ensure that the scenes from Nice are not repeated in our city".

According to the police, they are also in contact with 1. FC Köln, who have promised to "fully support the officials in clarifying the incidents."

FC fans who took photos or videos of the riots in Nice could submit them to an online portal.

1. FC Köln face fines after riots in Nice – UEFA investigates

Because of the violent "fan" riots in Nice, 1. FC Köln are now threatened with various penalties from UEFA.

The organizer of the conference league announced on Friday evening (September 9th) that disciplinary proceedings had been initiated.

1. FC Köln is officially under investigation for "throwing objects", "burning off fireworks or other objects" and other "interference by spectators".

The French host from Nice meanwhile has to answer for allegations regarding the security staff and the organization, among other things.
