Damascus-SANA
After the brilliance of our quartet in Arab, continental and international forums, Syria will host the Arab Weightlifting Championship at Al-Jalaa Hall in Damascus in mid-November.
After an absence of twelve years, weightlifting will return in Syria to organize Arab championships, and it will be a gateway to organizing Asian and international championships. This is what the President of the International Federation, Muhammad Hassan Jalloud, said, stressing the support of the International Federation for the establishment of the Arab Championship in Damascus because Syria was and will remain an outlet for all Arabs.
Jalloud added in a statement to SANA that the weightlifting game in Syria is in constant development, and the participation of its athletes in any championship has a special flavor, especially in weightlifting, praising the efforts of the Syrian Federation for the game, which has developed from its condition and presented strong silent champions in international forums.
Jalloud revealed that the sport of weightlifting has basic pillars, and Syria is one of them since the eighties until now, as it has produced champions such as the late Talal Al-Najjar, Hassanein Al-Sheikh, Ahed Jugaili, Maan Asaad and many others, pointing to the chances of the Syrian team winning many great medals due to the presence of raw materials and emerging talents, in addition to the veteran champions.
The head of the Syrian Olympic Committee, Firas Mualla, met Jalloud yesterday and presented him with a commemorative shield for his positive stances and effective role in supporting the sport of weightlifting in Syria.
It is noteworthy that Jalloud held the position of Secretary General of the Arab Federation, the Asian Federation and the International Federation, and last June he won the position of the presidency of the International Weightlifting Federation.
