In their open confrontation with the Russian Federation, NATO countries are floundering in finding political and economic means to pressure Moscow in the ongoing and raging battle between the two powers against the backdrop of the Ukrainian crisis.

This confusion appears in the field of economic war more than in other fields, as Western economic sanctions failed to stifle the Russian economy, as the Russian currency, the ruble, continues to rise against other foreign currencies, especially the dollar and the euro, while Russian energy companies reap great returns from the marketing of Russian oil and gas, as Moscow quickly found Alternatives to some NATO countries abandoning the purchase of these two substances, and the US Treasury Department acknowledged that the performance of the Russian oil sector at this stage is better than it was before the Ukrainian crisis and sanctions, which overthrew NATO efforts to deprive Moscow of oil and gas export resources, as it increased by 60% over last year According to the US Treasury.

The failure of Western sanctions on Moscow has its objective reasons on the Russian side and the structure of NATO, as the steadfastness of the Russian economy in the face of these sanctions packages, which exceeded 600 decisions, reflects the strength of this economy, the diversity of its inputs and outputs, and Russia’s economic relations with the global economic system, while the European failure is due to major differences. Among the Atlantic countries about the mechanisms of dealing with Moscow, this was evident when the European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simpson, announced the failure of the European Union to agree on setting a ceiling for the price of Russian gas.

Added to this is the decline in the role of Western powers at the global level and Washington's inability to impose its will on many countries of the world, as it was at the beginning of this century, and all this with other factors indicating the decline of American hegemony in return for the formation of a new multipolar world.

The Western media machine is working to cover this (Atlantic) failure by broadcasting credible news and reports about the conduct of the battles on Ukrainian soil, promoting fake victories over the Russian forces, which prompted NATO President Jens Stoltenberg to downplay this by saying (you must not make mistakes and prepare for a long war). This is so that the exposure of the falsehood of the victories of the Kyiv forces in Kherson and Kharkov would not negatively affect the allies of the alliance in Ukraine and the Western public opinion in general.

The imposition by the United States, the United States and its allies from the Group of Seven and the European Union, of a ban on the shipping of Russian oil and petroleum products in the next two months, and at the same time the failure of the European Group to set a ceiling for the price of Russian gas, reflects the extent of the blundering of NATO countries in making decisions related to economic sanctions against Russia On the other hand, this reflects the impossibility of implementing such decisions by all NATO countries. Therefore, Washington left the door open to other countries from making such purchases through exceptions to the embargo imposed on oil and gas supplies from Russia, and thus the failure of the blockade sought by Washington on Russian supplies.

The confusion of NATO countries is not limited to the economic issue only, and there are deep differences between them about the feasibility of continuing military supplies to Ukraine, while the Ukrainian forces are retreating and incurring heavy losses on the ground, in addition to reports that talk about these weapons or a large part of them going to the black market, which is what many fear. from European countries and that this weapon will be used later against their people or their interests.

Therefore, differences prevail in the political field within the alliance countries over how to deal with Russia. Some countries reject the political boycott with Moscow and warn of the danger of this, while others support it.

In light of this Western reality and the studied Russian dealing with all developments in Ukraine and on the NATO arena, the biggest loser will remain the Ukrainian people, who have been embroiled in a proxy war that has made them lose peace, stability and the “geopolitical” unity of their country, which will not return to what it was before.
