The Central District Court accepted the appeal of the prosecutor's office on the lightness of the sentence of the kindergartener Yelena Strubinski from the "Masha and the Bear" magen, and increased her sentence from 18 to 28 months of actual imprisonment.

The Central District Attorney's Office appealed to the District Court the lightness of the sentence imposed by the Petah Magistrate's Court on Yelena Strubinski. As you may remember, as part of the plea deal, Strobinski was convicted of three charges of assaulting a minor by a person in charge and was sentenced to 18 months in prison and other penalties. At the same time , Strobinski also appealed the severity of the sentence. The district court accepted the state's arguments, increased her sentence and dismissed Strobinski's appeal.

The amended indictment to which Strobinski admitted states that the accused attacked five babies, some of them less than one year old, as part of her work as an assistant at the "Masha and the Bear" kindergarten.

In addition, it appears that Strobinski acted towards the toddlers as if they were objects.

The indictment also states that Strobinski acted together with Ina Skibenko, another assistant, who caused the death of the late one-year-old Yasmin Vinta (Skibenko was sentenced to 17 years in prison).

In the verdict, the court also referred to the death of the late Yasmin Vinta, which occurred in the garden, saying: "It is important to clarify that the respondent is not paying a price for acts that were not committed by her.

On the other hand, it cannot be ignored that the respondent is part of the team of caregivers at the kindergarten, and that she committed acts that are in part similar to those committed by her co-worker Skybanko and in close temporal proximity to them.

The respondent was a partner in the creation of the 'therapeutic climate' and the 'treatment' methods that were used in the kindergarten, when miraculously her actions did not end in a more serious way."

The court also stated that "the ugliness of the respondent's actions, the humiliation of the toddlers and the potential and concrete effect of her actions on them and their family members, require an appropriate response."

The headquarters of the fight for the children congratulated the decision "We congratulate the prosecutor's office, and in particular the prosecutor Iris Packer, who did not accept the sentence and filed an appeal, the first of its kind in child abuse cases.

"The toughening of the sentence is part of an overall trend of toughening punishment, which began in the civil movement and was strengthened with the law to toughen punishment against female abusers of MK Ofir Katz, which was promoted by the struggle headquarters.

Every nanny, kindergartner, and assistant will know that the law for harming our children will be tougher and more severe than ever."
