At the festive service with Reinhard Marx in Lenggries, the Archbishop recalled James as the patron saint of pilgrims and spoke about the time factor.

Lenggries

– “A house full of glory looks far across the land”: the festive service marking the 300th anniversary of the parish church of St. James in Lenggries began with this well-known song on Sunday morning with Archbishop Reinhard Cardinal Marx.

The yellow and white church flag on the tower, as well as a yellow and white flag hanging in wide arches from the ceiling inside, announced the great feast day of the parish.

Rain showers in the morning did not bode well for the church procession, but in the end it was only a light drizzle when the clergy, drums and band, the rifle company and the delegations from the local clubs made their way through the market street and to the ringing of the church bells, at then go to church.

Pastor Josef Kraller welcomed the visitors.

According to Kraller, 300 years have now passed since the then Bishop Johann Franziskus Eckher von Freising consecrated the newly built church.

In connection with this celebration, a large number of young people were confirmed at the same time.

variety of activities

In order to pay due attention to the anniversary in the present, there have been a large number of activities in the past few months.

As a spiritual start to the jubilee year, Auxiliary Bishop Wolfgang Bischof celebrated an opening service here in September last year.

The church is a place of prayer "to which we are always invited to pray, ask and receive."

Archbishop Marx followed up on this in his sermon.

Saint James, patron saint of the parish church, is the patron saint of pilgrims in the veneration of the saints.

“Pilgrimage means being on the move, once here, once there – that is also an image for modern people.

Holiday trips, for example, have become a matter of course for many people.”

The time factor, from which one cannot free oneself, is a "mysterious reality" that brings changes with it.

In this change, this church is a sign of stability.

"Even if it is only a shell, a symbol of faith."

The festive “Missa Brixinensis” by Stefan Trenner is heard in the church

The church is an invitation to everyone, according to Jesus' words to all those who are weary and burdened, to all those who are searching, but also to give thanks.

The church is a voice that calls out to people, “even if this voice is often no longer heard today.

Everyone can decide that for themselves,” says Marx.

Not only should people seek God, the church is also a sign of God's search for the hearts and love of people, for the lost.

For all these concerns, the Lenggrieser parish church will remain an open site, emphasized Pastor Kraller.

The service was musically designed by the local church choir, organ and wind instruments under the direction of Alexander Pointner with the festive "Missa Brixinensis" by Stefan Trenner.

Father Josef Wasensteiner and Deacon Walter Schwind acted as co-celebrants.

At the end, Kraller addressed many words of thanks to the organizers, helpers and supporters during the anniversary year, especially to church minister Peter Dichtl, with whom many threads came together.

Outside the church of St. Jakob, the Antlass rifle company then honored the archbishop with a thunderous salute, before the procession went to the multi-purpose hall in the cloud and with dry feet.

There, the local rural youth had organized a convivial parish festival with various offers for the children.

The brass band provided an entertaining end to the Lenggries anniversary celebrations.
