According to US Vice President Kamala Harris, she is concerned about the image of the United States as a model democracy.

In an interview with NBC television broadcast on Sunday, Harris complained that 11 people in each US state are currently running for the office of chief election commissioner while at the same time questioning the legitimacy of the recent presidential election.

There are also people in some of the highest elected offices in the country who have refused to condemn the January 6, 2021 storming of the Capitol.

This leads people to wonder whether the US actually stands by what they say they do when it comes to democracy.

"We have had the honor and privilege in the past to hold our heads high as defenders and as examples of a great democracy," she said.

"That gives us the legitimacy and the authority to speak about the importance of democratic principles, the rule of law and human rights." The USA sees itself as a role model here, and international observation is being made of "what we are doing to see whether it corresponds to what we say«.

On January 6, 2021, supporters of President Donald Trump, who had just been voted out at the time, stormed the seat of parliament in Washington.

Congress met there to formally confirm the victory of Trump's Democratic challenger Joe Biden in the previous presidential election.

The violent crowd wanted to prevent that.

Five people were killed in the riots, including a police officer.

Trump had recently incited his supporters at a rally that his election victory had been stolen.

To this day, Trump claims without any evidence that he was deprived of victory through large-scale electoral fraud.
