Marin de Viry: "Charles III, when simplicity meets the grandiose and the essential"

In his first speech as king, Charles III said very simple things: I love my mother who loved my father;

I love my children, an affection which I extend to my daughters-in-law;

my eldest son becomes the Prince of Wales and I am delighted;

I love my wife who will play her role wonderfully by my side;

I love my country ;

I like the countries of the community;

I like the Constitution.

In short, I like.

I become the king, therefore I change roles, and you may count on me to die to the task, as it is just and good, and as my noble mother has set the example.

Everything was pronounced with a mixture of seriousness, simplicity and discreet emotion, in a setting of perfect immobility, where one has the impression of having seen one hundred times one's mother.

Charles III was admirably dressed as usual,

with in particular a divine cover which furtively brightened up his mourning, without insulting him.

This cover was a discreet escape to life taking back its rights.
