Israel believes that at this point in time, a nuclear agreement between Iran and the powers will not be signed until after the mid-term elections for the American Congress on November 8, a senior political official said today (Sunday) in a press briefing.
"It seems that Iran has no interest in returning to the agreement as it is. We continue to fight and convince," said the political official.
"We managed to influence the United States not to make any more concessions to Iran. We feel that our policy is working."
The senior political official said that the quiet dialogue that Israel has had with the American administration is doing the job so far.
"The Americans appreciate it and want to hear what we have to say," said the official.
In addition, the political official noted that the assessment of the intelligence agencies in Israel, the United States and Europe is that an Iranian nuclear hack is not a likely scenario at this time.
"Iran lacks a lot in order to get a weapon. The breakthrough can now only be to obtain the necessary amount of uranium and the Iranians at this stage do not have the ability to produce the rest of the components of the bomb," he said.
"It is clear to Iran that as soon as it moves a finger in this direction, it goes to the UN Security Council and does not leave there."
