Antiquities Robbery: Rare archaeological findings seized in Hebron | Israel today

At the end of an investigation conducted by the Hebron Police, in conjunction with the Archeology Unit of the Civil Administration, a secret operation was carried out in the last few days in the Abu Sanina neighborhood in Hebron, during which the Archeology Unit, in cooperation with the Hebron Coordination and Liaison Directorate, was located by district police officers Shay in the Israel Police and the fighters of the Saber Battalion in the Yehuda Htmar, many archeological finds that were unlawfully kept.

At the end of the activity, the findings, among others from the Late Bronze Age as well as coins from the Roman, Byzantine and Umayyad periods, were confiscated and transferred to further research and treatment at the KMT Archeology Unit in the Civil Administration.

The findings from the Late Bronze Age, which apparently came from a burial cave that was looted in the vicinity of Tel Hebron, are extremely rare and constitute important evidence of the settlement, in the Biblical Tel during this period.

The 55-year-old resident of Hebron, in whose home the finds that were illegally kept, were found, was transferred to the KMT Archeology Unit for further treatment and investigation.

The Civil Administration will continue to guard the archaeological sites and finds in the territories of Judea and Samaria and will act hard against lawbreakers who harm them.
