research into the causes of death

" was opened on Monday after the death of an inmate at the Vezin-le-Coquet remand center near Rennes, which occurred overnight, we learned from judicial source.

Born in 1997, this detainee was in pre-trial detention as part of a judicial investigation in Nantes for drug trafficking.

The young man had recently expressed "

his psychological distress

" before a judge, according to his lawyer Me Philippe Ohayon.

Around 3:10 a.m., the guards discovered the inmate in his cell and tried to resuscitate him.
