An investigation into "
research into the causes of death
" was opened on Monday after the death of an inmate at the Vezin-le-Coquet remand center near Rennes, which occurred overnight, we learned from judicial source.
Born in 1997, this detainee was in pre-trial detention as part of a judicial investigation in Nantes for drug trafficking.
The young man had recently expressed "
his psychological distress
" before a judge, according to his lawyer Me Philippe Ohayon.

Around 3:10 a.m., the guards discovered the inmate in his cell and tried to resuscitate him.
Despite the arrival of the SAMU, his death was recorded at 4:10 a.m.

The detainee was in a cell with another detainee

the causes of death have not yet been established
”.
An autopsy was to be performed Monday afternoon.
Detained in Vezin-le-Coquet (Ille-et-Vilaine), the young man was indicted for "
drug trafficking, participation in a criminal association, laundering, transport and possession of category B weapons
", specified the prosecutor.
A magistrate from the Rennes public prosecutor's office came to the site as well as a forensic doctor.
According to his lawyer, Me Ohayon, the young man had been subjected to an interrogation on Friday before an examining magistrate in Nantes to whom he had testified to his "
conditions of detention
" and expressed "
his psychological distress
" following the indictment of his parents, at the end of July.

The lawyer said he had written to the controller of prisons and the investigating judge.
