District – The school bag is packed, the school cone is filled with sweet treats and one or two toys or pens.

The night before the first day of school was definitely exciting for many parents - but especially for the first graders.

It's on now - school!

In the district, 1,336 school beginners in 67 classes are starting school today at state and private primary schools.

A total of 7,860 schoolchildren attend the 24 general and five private elementary and secondary schools in the district of Starnberg.

Around 28 percent of the students have a migration background (not including the students at private schools), reported the Director of Education, Karin Huber-Weinberger, at the request of the district messenger.

The average class size in general elementary schools is 23.8 students, in state middle schools it is 20.5.

Each class at the elementary and middle schools could be provided with a class teacher.

Compulsory teaching can be covered by state teachers and substitutes recruited.

Hours for inclusion are available to individual schools as needed.

An additional budget for children with a migration background or for German children for language support in the kindergarten and at schools enables the establishment of so-called German courses and German support measures.

At the elementary schools, these hours are also used specifically to support the Ukrainian pupils, who are integrated into the regular classes here.

Fewer teachers in the mobile reserve

At every middle school in the district, so-called bridge classes were set up for all grades and school types.

The need for personnel was mainly covered by recruiting Ukrainian teachers and people experienced in the field of DaZ (didactics of German as a second language).

The mobile reserve budget specified by the government of Upper Bavaria could be formed, but the number of freely available people/hours is already reduced at the beginning of the school year due to the necessary replacement of pregnant and long-term sick teachers.

There is also a lack of specialist teachers in the district of Starnberg

The supply of staff in the area of all specialist teachers remains tense, so in elementary school and in middle school, elementary and middle school teachers take over some of the teaching in the subjects WuG, economics 7 and technology 7. Basically, there are a total of 54 (specialist) teachers working part-time and full-time ready for the backup service.
