Until six weeks ago, the family world of Beate and Florian M. with their two children was carefree.

Then a stroke of fate struck overnight that changed everything: Noah fell ill with leukemia.

Fürstenfeldbruck - Only a bone marrow donation can save his young life.

In desperation, the parents living in Fürstenfeldbruck turned to the population: "Help us, let us register and type." Particularly dramatic: the mother is heavily pregnant and is expecting her third child at the end of September.

Two perfectly healthy boys, no worries, a good job, nice vacations (most recently in Italy in June) - this is how the father, who was born and raised in Bruck and is now 40 years old, describes family life before the fateful day.

Noah ("A real Bazi") goes to kindergarten, is popular everywhere and is interested in all kinds of sports.

Diagnosis of leukemia: grandfather suffers with his grandson Noah (5)

As with dad, a former soccer player who is closely connected to the Brucker Panther handball team, with Noah and his brother Elias, who is three years older, everything revolves around what is round.

Even the small tennis balls that Grandpa Heinz, despite his 74 years, still plays in higher-class leagues.

The grandfather also suffers a lot with his grandson, comes by in any weather to play with the Lego bricks that Noah likes to set up or - if possible - to play football with him on the meadow.

"Noah could hardly wait until he was five years old and could start playing football in a club," recalls the father, who runs an insurance agency with his partner in the western district.

Then came July 13, 2022.

By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular

FFB newsletter.)

It was wife Beate's last day at work before maternity leave.

The 39-year-old is expecting her third child at the end of September.

The parents already know that after the two boys there will be a girl.

Two days earlier, she had noticed that Noah had a latent fever with a maximum body temperature of 38.5 degrees.

On Sunday, the parents felt so unwell that they called the ambulance.

He suspected a viral infection and recommended seeing a pediatrician the next day, which Beate Müller did immediately.

On the following days, Noah only slept, according to the father.

Devastating diagnosis of leukemia: Noah (5) from now on “in a high-security wing”

The mother already had a bad feeling and drove the boy back to the pediatrician.

His diagnosis: the spleen and liver were twice as large as normal, the lymph nodes were swollen, and the blood levels were going crazy.

Noah was immediately taken to the Third Order Hospital in Munich.

“When the doctor invited us to a separate room to talk, I knew straight away: this is getting serious,” recalls the father, who hurried over from his office.

The diagnosis was devastating: leukemia.

Noah was transferred to the Hauner Children's Hospital and spent five days in intensive care.

After another eleven days in inpatient isolation, the five-year-old was allowed to go home.

“In a high-security wing,” as the father describes the situation in the family home that has prevailed since then.

Because after the first intensive chemotherapy, the boy's immune system has to be protected.

Visits are only allowed to the closest relatives and friends, guests are received outside on the terrace at the edge of the forest - right next to a mini soccer field, on whose small goals Noah trained his shooting skills six weeks ago.

Noah (5) suffers from leukemia: the life of the family changes abruptly

The life of the family has suddenly changed from one second to the next and now only takes place alternately between the clinic and at home.

"We can no longer sleep, experience extreme ups and downs and live in constant fear of the new evaluation of Noah's blood values or that the fever will come back," says Florian M. of his family's current everyday life.

One consolation: professionally, his business partner and nine employees have his back.

But even that doesn't ease the worries.

The only hope is that as many fellow citizens as possible who are not yet registered with the German Bone Marrow Donor Center (DKMS) can be typed.

Every year, 500 children in the Federal Republic contract leukemia.

Most are cured after chemotherapy.

It's different with Noah: He needs a bone marrow transplant to significantly reduce the risk of recurrence.

The desperate appeal of the father and the mother-to-be to the population: "Registration only takes a few minutes.

Please do it as soon as possible, because each of you could be the right donor!"

Helping Noah: Bone Marrow Registration

Online registration with the German Bone Marrow Donor File, which was founded in 1991 at www.dkms.de, takes only three minutes and is possible up to the age of 61.

After three to four working days, three cotton swabs come in the mail, which you put in your mouth for 60 seconds, rub on your cheek and then send back.
