Anyone who has traveled long-distance with Deutsche Bahn in the last three months has often had to expect delays.

Only 56.8 percent of the trains were on time.

In the last few months, rail traffic was mainly characterized by the 9-euro ticket, which caused a large rush in local public transport.

Long-distance trains were excluded from the cheap ticket.

And yet there were many delays here, as the train now announced, according to the

German Press Agency (dpa)

.

Deutsche Bahn: Almost every second long-distance train in August is delayed

56.8 percent of long-distance stops are said to have been on time in August.

Conversely, this means that almost half of all stops were late.

From Deutsche Bahn's point of view, a stop is still considered punctual if it is reached with a delay of less than six minutes.

This was the third time in a row that the railways had a rate of less than 60 percent - it hadn't been that low since the snow chaos at the end of 2010 more than ten years ago, as reported

The train gives various reasons for the delays in recent months: "Demand for national and cross-border freight, regional and long-distance transport was still very high," said a railway spokesman, according to

.

"There was massive construction in the main corridors of the infrastructure." The train accident in Garmisch-Partenkirchen also caused delays, as large numbers of concrete sleepers were replaced.

Again more punctuality at Deutsche Bahn in September

A better punctuality rate is expected again in September: “With the end of the 9-euro ticket and the completion of main corridor construction sites at the end of August, operational punctuality in long-distance and regional transport improved from the beginning of September,” said a railway spokesman.

Punctuality in regional transport should already be over 90 percent again.
