Mentioning salary ranges in job offers soon to be mandatory?

2022-09-13T08:14:37.235Z

The search engine Indeed announced this month that it would require the approximate amount of compensation offered in each advertisement.

A study conducted by the HelloWork group last March confirmed this: in France, only 30% of companies that publish a job offer specify the expected salary.

However, this is an essential data expected by candidates, and one of the main questions they ask themselves when applying.

For this reason, the Indeed platform has just announced the launch of an initiative that wants to reverse the trend: it is a question of obliging recruiters to mention a salary, or at least an approximate range, when they advertise on the site.

"It is being deployed in the United States and it will happen little by little in France," says Matthieu Eloy, CEO of Indeed France.

Already a reality in the United States

The leader of the job search engine wants to go gradually and will not impose a sudden change overnight.

Because the subject remains sensitive and many employers are reluctant to do so.

But with 1.2 million offers on Indeed (+ 40% compared to the pre-Covid period), “market pressure plays in favor of job seekers, underlines Matthieu Eloy.

However, the salary remains an important parameter of their search.

And all the more so in times of inflation.

The leader anticipates legislative developments that could take place in Europe.

In the United States, the obligation is already in force for recruiters in Colorado.

It will soon be in New York City.

And California has brought the subject up for debate.

“The proposal on salary transparency presented on April 5 by the European Commission also pushes in this direction,” adds the Director General.

Concretely, when the functionality will be activated by Indeed, the companies which publish their offers will no longer have a choice.

“If they don't provide a range themselves, we will do so for them based on the market data we have.

They will be able to modify it, not delete it ”, he specifies, without communicating a precise timetable for France for the moment.
