The artist Tammam Al-Awani was able to capture the audience’s attention during his unique experience with the monodrama through a presentation written, represented and directed by him, entitled “An Evening with Abi Daas Al-Hamdani”, which he presented at the headquarters of the Arab Writers Union branch in Homs.
During his presentation, Al-Awani recalled the names of poets who had their presence on the literary scene in Homs, leaning on his tone of voice and using simple tools away from the theatrical elements such as lighting, music and decor, which help in creating a clear, active and follower theatrical rhythm from the audience.
The show, which did not exceed 40 minutes, marked the beginning of the art of al-Ghurfa theater in the monodrama in Syria, where al-Awani chose the character of a poet named Abu Daas al-Hamdani, who thinks himself of distinguished literary stature, which gives him the right to criticize poets and accuse them of plagiarizing his poems.
Al-Awani’s exaggeration in addressing the character of Abu Daas to some of the poets of Homs came as a tribute to them and to distinguish them from those who call poetry at the present time, which distinguishes the style of room theater from what is prevalent in the traditional art of monodrama, which evokes characters from the past.
The writer Dr. Nazih Bodour saw that the Chamber theater is a unique and distinctive experience that expresses the talent of the actor and director and the effort expended in preparing the script to attract the audience.
Theatrical director Hassan Akla pointed out that the theater of the room is a unique experience, but it bears problems about the nature of the character, the text, the structure, and the system of relations between the character and its surroundings.
Poet Talib Hammash pointed out that the art of monodrama needs a talented actor who can maintain the changing theatrical rhythm, indicating that Al-Awani's experience is an important initiative as he was able to change the theatrical rhythm at every moment in addition to constantly changing the structure of the conflict between dramatic escalation and calm within a clear rhythmic relationship with the viewer.
It is noteworthy that the artist Tammam Al-Awani began his artistic career in 1978 as an actor and worked with a number of groups and major theater directors in Homs.
