Researchers have now managed for the first time to make a high-resolution video in 8K of the legendary Titanic.

High time, because the wreck is gradually disappearing.

Everett, USA - She was once the largest passenger ship in the world and was considered unsinkable.

Today the Titanic lies at a depth of 3800 meters on the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.

Researchers from the company OceanGate have now managed to record a video of the wreck in 8k - the currently highest possible resolution.

The recording is primarily used for scientific investigations, but incidentally also provides recordings with unprecedented sharpness and "phenomenal colors".

Researchers capture 8K footage of Titanic - and capture it for eternity

The Titanic sank in the night of April 14/15, 1912, only more than 70 years later, on September 1, 1985, did researchers find it in the Atlantic Ocean.

Estimates assume that the wreck of the ship will be completely gone in a few years or decades.

The high pressure at depth, ocean currents, salt water and numerous microbes cause the structure to create problems and slowly decompose it.

This is another reason why the high-resolution images taken by the OceanGate researchers are important.

"The amazing detail in the 8K footage will help our team of scientists and marine archaeologists more accurately place the Titanic's disintegration as we capture new footage in 2023 and beyond," Stockton Rush said in a press release, as reported by CNN.

What's even more remarkable, he added, is "the phenomenal colors."

The company OceanGate leads expeditions with submarines to the wreck of the Titanic.

Diving experts, historians or scientists are usually present.

However, anyone who pays 250,000 US dollars (about 252,000 euros) can also participate as a private person - civilian "mission specialist" is the internal designation at OceanGate.

Experts explain: This can actually be seen in the video

The Titanic video is probably like any visit to a museum: the more familiar you are with it, the more impressive it becomes.

Experts, for example, immediately notice the lettering Noah Hingley & Sons Ltd, which is suddenly easy to read.

This is the manufacturer of the anchor of the Titanic.

"I've studied the wreck for decades and done multiple dives, and I can't remember ever seeing an image that shows this level of detail," said Titanic expert Rory Golden.

If you look closely, you might also discover green dots.

This is a laser scaling system.

“With this system we can precisely determine the size of objects.

The distance between the two green lights is 10 centimeters,” explains Paul Henry Nargeolet, an experienced Titanic diver.

Towards the end of the video, viewers see three circular structures located within the railing.

These are the triple guide lines that once guided the docking ropes to the bollards on land to secure the 269-meter-long ship in port, Nargeolet explains.

The 8k video can also be seen, for example, the anchor chain of the Titanic, whose individual links each weigh around 100 kilograms.

The details of the 8K resolution are important for researchers, but not for laypeople: the human eye is usually not capable of

Titanic's "rust cones" are probably the most famous in the world

What is particularly striking in the video are the so-called "rusticles", an English portmanteau word made up of rust and icicle.

These "rusticles" form when bacteria in the deep sea decompose steel or iron - the Rusticles of the Titanic are probably the most famous in the world.

They are also the reason why the wreck will be completely decomposed in a few decades.

In the end, all that remains of the "Ship of Dreams" are the stories of the people who lost their lives on the Titanic and those who survived the accident.

The sinking of what was once the world's most advanced ship also reminds us of an important lesson: Whether it's first or third class, we're all in the same boat at the end of the day.
