The entrance to Ízbor and Acebuches (Granada) along the motorway road that connects Granada with the coast of Granada appeared to be completely closed after six in the morning this morning.

Numerous red cones prevented access to a road that the night before, between nine and midnight, saw how most of its neighbors, of the little more than 150 who reside at this time in those localities, abandoned their residences on their way to a place that they understood safer, according to its mayor, Francisco Titos.

At 8:20 this morning, the Civil Guard again allowed access to both municipalities in the Los Guájares region.

This newspaper has been the first to access Ízbor, a ghost town at that time, with no one on the street, with no home lights on.

Only fire seals,

Acebuches is a small nucleus that is located a few hundred meters before reaching Ízbor.

The road that allows them to reach both is opposite and Juan Sánchez and Plácido Hidalgo have spent the night there.

Both have homes in Acebuches and both have spent "a pretty bad night" seeing how the fire has come up to 80 meters from the small inhabited nucleus, which has the name of a wild olive tree.

Placido fears for a second residence on his property which, he points with his finger, is clearly in the burned area.

Both insist that what is there is "his whole life".

More information

The forest fire in Granada reaches 20 kilometers of front out of control and forces two towns to be evacuated

The two towns, as the mayor relates, had a moment of panic around half past nine on Monday night, when the erratic winds brought the fire dangerously close to the town.

At that time, the Junta de Andalucía ruled that there was a risk for the population and confined the urban area to the inhabitants of both municipalities.

Shortly after, around 10 o'clock, given the situation, Francisco Titos toured both towns urging that, voluntarily, whoever had another residence or the possibility of leaving, leave the town.

That's what the majority did, except for a few, like Juan and Placido, who have spent the night in the car in front of their town, the flames and fear.

The great fire, which has already burned more than 5,000 hectares since it started last Thursday, went out of control in the middle of the afternoon.

The changing winds caused the fire to gain strength on the way to the coast, parallel to the highway that heads to Motril.

At seven o'clock on Tuesday morning, in a tour made by this newspaper, the active fire front created in the same direction of the highway reached 10 kilometers, which was not there the night before.

The rain has fallen intermittently throughout the night, although with little intensity.

Very complicated night for the fire operation and for the residents of the Lecrín Valley.

The erratic winds gave it a lot of force and in some areas, it was almost impossible to work.

Somewhat helped the rain, but work remains.

The mayor has hoped that the rain that began last night will continue and help to stop the flames, and has considered that the situation is "in the process of being solved", after the front that threatened Izbor and Acebuches has "stopped" in some olive grove farmhouses.

An Infoca spokesman has informed Efe that, for the moment, the rain that fell last night in the area has been scarce, so it has barely had an effect on the extinction work, in which 180 firefighters have been employed throughout the morning. forestry, about twenty specialists, seven fire engines, five heavy machines, a meteorological unit, another medical unit and two analysis units.

The advanced command post from which the actions are coordinated has been transferred from Albuñuelas to the Rules dam for greater control and visibility of the fire, according to Infoca.

Likewise, the presence of smoke and the smell of burning, as occurred in previous days, has become evident in recent hours both in the capital of Granada and the rest of the metropolitan area, despite being located more than 40 kilometers from the area of the fire, located between the regions of La Costa and Lecrín.

The Junta de Andalucía has just decreed level 1 in the Los Guajares fire and the confinement of Ízbor.

Air and ground reinforcements will now arrive.

My question is, shouldn't they have been ordered earlier?
