Two new vehicles and the new rooms of the THW were inaugurated.

Previously, the change of the local representative was on the program.

Walter Frömmrich (68) resigned from his post.

Schongau – The large hall, in which the emergency vehicles are lined up during the week, has been redecorated into a festival hall: the change in leadership of the “commander” of the Schongau THW is on the agenda.

On the other hand, the new accommodation rooms and two vehicles are blessed.

Even before the official change, Dominik Helms, the state representative for Bavaria, honored Walter Frömmrich with the Golden Medal of Honor for 50 years in active THW service - the highest award that THW can bestow.

"As a 14-year-old I went to the water rescue service, but then quickly switched to THW," says Frömmrich.

During construction work, he had observed a THW excavator driver how easy he was with the device.

That impressed Frömmrich.

Frömmrich climbed the ladder in the troop.

In 1984, at the age of 31, he became the youngest local officer in Bavaria.

"It would never have been possible without the help and support of my family," says Frömmrich.

Volunteer at THW for over 50 years

He spends 600 hours a year on volunteer work.

It is also thanks to his persistence and farsightedness that a new accommodation with modern premises was planned and realised.

"I won't stop until the construction is finished," he announced in 2013.

A lot has changed due to Corona, and now Frömmrich has implemented his announcement.

The building has been completed inside and out, and a suitable successor has been found: son-in-law Harald Wörnzhofer, who has been the deputy for many years, takes over the office of local representative.

The "old" is dismissed by the state representative Dominik Helms, the "new" is given the certificate of appointment.

For 38 years, full-blooded THW employee Walter Frömmrich led the Schongau office, shaped the troop and left his mark on the institution.

He made it clear again and again how important sound training and professional equipment is.

Among other things, he campaigned for a high-performance pump to be purchased for the district and stationed in Schongau.

This is often used during floods.

Among other things, when the Elbe flooded in Dresden in 2002 and a year later in southern France.

In 2005 in Freising, a major catastrophe could thus be prevented.

New local officer

At the event, representatives of the fire brigade, civil protection, police, water rescue service, BRK, Bundeswehr, the district office, pastoral care and local politics show their attachment to THW and the jubilee.

"An outstanding person who is always very committed - just someone who gets down to it," said Falk Sluyterman, Mayor of Schongau.

His counterpart from Peiting, Peter Ostenrieder, cites figures: "In 70 years of THW we had five local officers.

Walter Frömmrich alone shouldered this honorary post for more than half the years.

You can see the heart and soul that goes into his work.” Deputy District Administrator Wolfgang Taffertshofer adds with words of praise: “It is a comforting feeling to know that there are people like you who can get down to work, hats off to your performance. "

The successor Harald Wörnzhofer is given respect and recognition.

"That he took over this position as a new engine," says Sluyterman.

Ostenrieder wishes Harald Wörnzhofer and everyone else "Good luck for the future." He describes it as unique in the world that 98 percent of all THW employees work on a voluntary basis.

Pastor Dirk Wollenweber and deacon Hans Steinhilber bless the staff, the two newly acquired vehicles and the new premises, to the musical accompaniment of the traditional costume and miners' band.

Pastor Wollenweber, who is himself a breathing apparatus wearer with the Peiting fire brigade, insists on writing the reference to a quote in the letter to the Romans with chalk on the floor of the hall and on the headlights of the new vehicles: Rom 8, 38 -39.
