Cotton harvesting operations began in various governorates, where the cultivated areas amounted to 24,211 hectares out of the planned plantation plan of 57,365 hectares, and the expected production for this year is estimated at 66,775 tons, according to Dr. Ahmed Al-Juma, Director of the Cotton Office in Syria.

In a statement to SANA reporter in Aleppo, Dr. Al-Jumah explained the strategic importance of the cotton crop in terms of agricultural, industrial, production and marketing in the governorates of Hama, Aleppo, Al-Raqqa, Deir Ezzor and Al-Hasakah, as it provides raw materials and fibers for spinning and weaving factories and seeds for oil companies, and part of the edible oil and its seed residues are used as fodder, noting that Cultivation of an area of ​​590 hectares of cotton in Aleppo out of the plan to plant 6797 hectares, and it is expected to produce 1475 tons.

Dr. Al-Juma’a explained that the condition of the crop for this year is good, and there are insect infestations with nut worms, and they were combated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform by releasing vital enemies for free to the farmers’ fields, and the infection was below the economic threshold and does not affect production, in addition to the cultivation of the “Aleppo 118” variety in Aleppo Governorate, and supplies were provided Production of seeds, fertilizers and fuels according to the available capabilities. The price of one kilogram of the beloved cotton was set at 4,000 Syrian pounds, which is an encouraging price for the farmer to deliver his entire product.

In the Kweris area in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, where farmers reap the cotton crop in their fields, the farmer Fahd Al-Mayouf from Arbid village said that he started cultivating the cotton season in the month of April, and areas have been irrigated, including by flood irrigation and another by drip irrigation, and the amount of production has increased by 40 percent, and 50 percent have been provided. percent of water.

The farmer Shaalan Muhammad al-Ibrahim explained that he owns a field with an area of ​​more than two hectares and adhered to the planting dates and the instructions of the agricultural units related to irrigation, fertilization and weeding on a regular basis, and he expected to produce five tons of cotton. And adopting modern irrigation methods, expressing his hope to achieve abundant production this year.

While the head of the agricultural association in the village of Arbid Abdel Rahman Ibrahim stressed the need to provide production requirements of fuel and fertilizers to obtain a good cotton crop, in addition to providing care for the crop and according to agricultural guidelines such as regular fertilization and watering with a drip network.
