After years of a small cold war, Venezuela and Colombia have again appointed ambassadors.
The two states broke diplomatic and consular relations in 2019, when the Colombian administration of Iván Duque stopped recognizing Nicolás Maduro as the legitimate president of Venezuela.
According to figures from the new head of the Colombian diplomatic mission in Venezuela, Armando Benedetti, the population of Colombians in Venezuela exceeds 4 million people.
The director of the Association of Colombian Men and Women in Venezuela, Juan Carlos Tanus, assured Efe that there are more than 4.5 million.
For Tanus, this group was "unassisted" and has needs that include regularizing their documentation, and covering other social and economic aspects, which have not been resolved due to the differences between the two governments.
