Asked to come back down to earth, they now know that everyone will have to participate in the war effort, with gas and electricity bills raised by 15%.

The most modest will receive an “exceptional check” – one more – to sweeten the bill.

This "lightened tariff shield", if we dare say so, will still cost the State an additional 18 billion euros.

It will not prevent the French from brooding over their anger over the mistakes of our energy policy and the failures of EDF, which, combined with Putin's war in Ukraine, have led to where we are.

But let's be honest: these increases, which would have been considered disproportionate and intolerable at other times, are a lesser evil.
