United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his hope that the safety of the Zaporozhye nuclear plant will be ensured by all parties, noting that there are ongoing negotiations between Russia and Ukraine under the auspices of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the plant's security.
Russia Today quoted Guterres as saying at a press conference at the 77th session of the General Assembly, "We have not recorded an increase in the radiation rate in the station area so far, and I hope that the attacks targeting it will stop," calling on all parties to respect the safety of the station.
On the other hand, Guterres said that he discussed with Russian President Vladimir Putin the obstacles to exporting Russian food and fertilizers to global markets, the possibility of extending the Black Sea grain initiative and the possibility of expanding it according to the methodology that will be applied by the Joint Coordination Center.
