It is uncertain whether the supervisory board meeting of the Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB) planned for Thursday will take place.

A decision should be made there about the 29-euro local transport ticket, for which the Berlin Senate is campaigning.

However, the district administrator of Märkisch-Oderland, Gernot Schmidt, objected to the urgency of the meeting on Wednesday, as initially reported by the “Tagesspiegel” on Wednesday evening.

Berlin – The Senate Chancellery said that everything would be tried to ensure that the supervisory board meeting could take place as planned.

If that doesn't work, it should be made up for in the coming week.

Time is running out.

Berlin's Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey said on Tuesday after deliberations in the Senate on the subject that a decision must be made on Thursday so that the transport companies would have enough time to prepare.

The introduction of a 29-euro ticket limited to Berlin for the period from October 1st to December 31st is under discussion, as can be seen from a submission by the Senate Department for the Environment and Mobility to the main committee in the House of Representatives, which met on Wednesday.

The VBB supervisory board should vote on Thursday during a video link.

As the RBB reported, citing a spokesman for the district administrator, the reason for the objection is that Schmidt had not received any documents for the meeting by Wednesday afternoon.

This was not on time and not enough time to be able to prepare the content.

VBB spokesman Joachim Radünz told RBB that the meeting would take place as planned.

In this, however, the quorum of the body would have to be determined.

This could fail due to a veto by Schmidt.

There were several skeptical voices in Brandenburg regarding the project for a time-limited local transport ticket for Berlin.

Even if the VBB supervisory board, in which several mayors and district administrators from Brandenburg are represented, should vote on the 29-euro ticket on Thursday, it is unclear how it will decide.
