After the nine-euro ticket, prices in local transport should rise again.
Although this can be explained rationally, it sends the wrong signal, comments Christian Deutschländer.
Local transport consists of trains, trams and buses.
And now also on a roller coaster: annual price increases were followed by a spectacular 9-euro ticket that ends, now it's a steep curve back to tangled tariffs and much further up.
Plus seven percent for everyone, commuters and occasional drivers - that's a shock for the greater Munich area.
Energy crisis: Price increases in local transport are a logical consequence - but send the wrong signal
A jump in prices can be rationally explained this time: Local transport needs electricity and fuel, and the prices for them are exploding.
Personnel costs will also increase in the medium term.
In view of the currently almost double-digit inflation, seven percent plus is not even obscene.
Nevertheless, this increase sends the wrong signal: Because users have to complain more than ever about cancellations, delays and chaos, because the railways and politicians are not creating a remedy with the second main route, but something between a never-ending project and a billion-dollar grave.
The main goal of getting people to switch to buses and trains is very far away at the moment.
The pressure is now growing for politicians in Bavaria too: Do something as a successor to the 9-euro ticket!
A model with 49 euros per month for nationwide local transport is just becoming even more attractive for Munich.
