For two years there were - at least officially - no Leonhardi rides in Bad Tölz and Benediktbeuern.
This year everything should be back to normal.
Bad Tölz – For two years in a row, the people of Tölz had to do without the traditional Leonhardi ride.
In honor of the horse saint, riders and one or the other wagon went to Calvary to pick up the blessing in the two pandemic years, but there was no real pilgrimage.
That should change again this year.
As of now, the Leonhardi ride will take place on Monday, November 7th.
"The motto is: we will do everything that is legally possible at this point in time," said town hall spokeswoman Birte Otterbach on request.
By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Bad Tölz newsletter.
"Everyone wants to drive," says the town hall spokeswoman
The planning has therefore started as normal.
There are currently no corona restrictions either.
No one can currently say whether this will remain the case through the autumn.
"Here, however, we don't have the reins of action in our hands," says Otterbach.
A mask requirement could probably still be enforced if it were to be ordered again at some point.
2G or 3G restrictions, on the other hand, are simply not feasible.
"We don't have an area with just a few entrances where we could check." But for now everyone is hoping for the best.
"Everyone wants to drive."
There is no driving on Sundays in Tölz, and not on Saturdays since the alcohol excesses
The reason that the pilgrimage does not take place on the actual Leonhardi Day, i.e. on November 6th, this year is because Tölz has not always driven on Sundays.
A postponement to Saturday, which was common in the past, is also not possible because there is now a city council decision that excludes this as a pilgrimage day.
The reason for this was that the last Leonharditag, which fell on a Saturday, got pretty out of hand with a view to the alcohol excesses.
Therefore, the trip will now take place on Monday.
Pilgrimage in Benediktbeuern takes place this time directly on the name day of the horse saint
This year, however, the pilgrimage to Benediktbeuern is planned directly on Leonharditag.
It always takes place on the Sunday closest to the name day of the patron saint - and this year that is November 6th.
