The military court this morning (Wednesday) imposed a sentence of 26 months of actual imprisonment on Sergeant M, the soldier who caused the death of the late Yonathan Granot by firing the bullet from the Ruger weapon in the Nahal Brigade.
Attorney Ran Cohen Rochbarger, who represents the soldier who shot, said: "Soldier M and his family send their condolences again today to the family of the late Yonatan Granot. The late Yonatan was M's best friend, who is tormented and pained by his death in the terrible tragedy, To this day, he is being treated by a psychiatrist following the acute post-trauma he suffered."
The late Garnot was a fighter in the Bazalat Battalion of the Nahal Brigade, 22 years old in Nefole, from Kibbutz Einat.
According to the investigation, the serious shooting incident took place in a camp in the Jordan Valley, during which the fighter was hit by a Ruger bullet, a weapon for dispersing demonstrations, which was apparently fired from a rifle that was used at the ranges shortly before.
The investigation also revealed that a military force conducted training at the range with Ruger bullets as part of the preparations for operational employment in the Gaza Division.
At the end of the range, the platoon commander unloaded the soldiers' weapons, and placed them near the company guard's position.

Later, one of the members of the staff raised one of the weapons, aimed at the space where the warrior was walking with another soldier, and at that point a bullet was fired that hit the warrior's head, who collapsed and lost consciousness.
The late Granot died in the hospital three days later.
