French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron received King Abdullah II of Jordan and Queen Rania on Wednesday (September 14th) for a lunch at the Élysée center focusing on the situation in the Middle East, the Élysée announced.

The presidential couple welcomed the king, the queen and the crown prince Hussein ben Abdallah at 1 p.m. in the main courtyard of the Elysée, in front of a hedge of photographers and cameramen.

This meeting marks a “
new stage in the strategic partnership
” between the two countries and will make it possible to “
continue joint work in the face of security and economic challenges
”, indicated the French presidency.

It will also be an opportunity to discuss the regional situation in the Middle East, with the same aim of promoting stability and dialogue
," she added.
France has stationed fighter jets in Jordan which have been engaged since 2014 in the fight against jihadist groups in Iraq and Syria.
President Macron also pleads for the association of the countries of the region, including Jordan, to broader discussions on the security issues linked to Iran.
