On the margins of "the state's bride" an important and at the same time annoying discussion arose this week.
The good news is that Ilan Peled took off his wig and released a nice song.
The less good news is his text.
The house that sparked the controversy is the issue of surrogacy, a sensitive issue in the community even before.
And this is the song:
"You bought a perfect baby for inst,
you chose from abroad from the list
and you paid in a bit in Crypt in Shit,
who cares about the surrogate."
What does the poet want to say?
Gays who make children through surrogacy are exploiters who buy children with money, who trade in women's bodies, all they care about is making children for Instagram and of course - "Who cares about the surrogate?".
This song also involves some key figures in the community (which is a shame), who are also responsible for educating the next generation.
The creators' explanation for the text is: satire.
I'm in favor of satire and also in favor of internal and external criticism, but this debate reminded me of another facet in the community called hypocrisy, and it's light years away from our colorful flag.
In July 2018, tens of thousands of community members took to the streets and demonstrated for their right to be fathers.
It was an important and moving protest that will forever be remembered in the books of the community's struggle.
The struggle was successful, and in Israel 2022 gays can use a procedure that was discriminatoryly reserved for straights only.
This discussion has arisen again under the auspices of the new song, and the story is simple:
There is a considerable part in the community of people who fulfilled the dream and became parents of children, who were hurt by the song and we need to listen to them and hear them and their claims.
In a normal community, the unpleasant event is used for an in-depth and important discussion.
But when it comes to the brilliant Ilan Peled with the cooperation of several key characters, we no longer have room for criticism and all Miri Pascal's fans emerged from the trenches and revealed their true and mediocre faces with the boring argument: "Enough of being heavy and making a point of everything."
This discussion flooded our ugly side, the shallow discussion culture, with personal and irrelevant accusations, and the inability to hear someone who claims otherwise.
In this story I learned that precisely in a community that is fighting for its future in a world that sometimes goes backwards, and demands from a creature that equality has not yet been born, there is no place for claims when they come from within the home.
Now imagine a square where we would hang the straight singer, who dared to sing the exact same song.
