This meeting is the first of a series of several meetings "without taboo", where the autonomy of Corsica will be discussed.

After the promise, the discussions.

Gérald Darmanin receives a delegation of elected officials on Friday at Place Beauvau to discuss the institutional, economic and social model of Corsica, the first meeting of a cycle of eight meetings “without taboos” devoted to the future of the island.

The Minister of the Interior, who had pledged in March to discuss the autonomy of Corsica, had set up in July a Strategic Committee on the future of the island, four months after the murder in prison of the Corsican independence activist and assassin of the prefect Erignac Yvan Colonna.

The discussions will focus from 10 am on the “economic and social model” of Corsica before addressing, in the afternoon, the various statutes of autonomy already existing in the Mediterranean.

Corsica will remain "in the Republic"

Gérald Darmanin has already discussed this Thursday with the deputy of Corse du Sud Laurent Marcangeli, who will participate in the meeting on Friday.

“#Corsica must engage with the State in a reflection on its economic and social model”, tweeted the one who left his chair as mayor of Ajaccio after his victory in the legislative elections.

This summer, Gérald Darmanin had argued that there would be "no taboo" during these consultations, in particular on an evolution towards autonomy, while setting two red lines: a Corsica which remains "in the Republic" and not to create "two types of citizens" on the island.

The consultation cycle must be spread over a year, with one meeting every six weeks.

The second meeting will be devoted to "financial speculation, town planning and housing" and the third, scheduled "before the end of 2022", to "the Corsican language and culture", announced Gérald Darmanin.

For each topic, it is planned to list the various statutes in force in the neighboring countries and to evoke the possible “evolutions” to bring to the statute of Corsica.
