Al-Hasakah farmers began harvesting the areas planted with the cotton crop, amid expectations of a production of nearly 19 thousand tons.
The head of the plant production department in the Directorate of Agriculture, Engineer Jalal Bilal, said in a statement to SANA reporter that cotton harvesting operations began in the rural areas of the cities of Hasaka and Qamishli, where the harvested area reached 150 hectares, with production quantities of nearly 350 tons, indicating that the harvest will include the various regions of the governorate early next week.
Bilal explained that the reality of the crop's growth is good for the current season, and it did not suffer from insect infestations except in a small range and in separate areas, pointing out that the first harvest of the crop may extend to the beginning of next month, after which the farmers start the second harvest.
The area cultivated with the cotton crop in Al-Hasakah Governorate for the current season is 5910 hectares.
