Fear is reportedly growing among the military of Russia and Vladimir Putin.

Meanwhile, Ukraine claims to have recaptured thousands of square meters in the war.

Kyiv/Moscow - What is the situation in the contested areas of Ukraine?

Allegedly, Russia is struggling with the military conflict in the neighboring country because of the dwindling morale of its troops.

The Kremlin is currently no longer sending newly assembled troops to the crisis region because volunteers from the Russian army are shocked by the recent increase in the number of victims.

Under the impression of the many deaths in the ranks of the Russian Federation, many soldiers would refuse to serve in the Ukraine war.

Kyiv reports land gains

However, it is unclear to what extent the published thesis is true: it is a statement by the General Staff from Kyiv regarding enemy observation.

Unsurprisingly, there is no confirmation from a Russian perspective.

Both sides in the Ukraine conflict accuse each other of manipulation and disinformation campaigns.

Meanwhile, President of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has spoken about retaking the territories occupied by Russia and stated that no less than "6000 square kilometers" were occupied in the counter-offensive.

According to him, Kiev forces have largely routed Russian troops in the Kharkiv region.

However, this coincides with Russian reports that a "strategic withdrawal" took place (more information in the news ticker).

Ukraine: Russian military withdraws from Kharkiv - attackers near Donetsk "destroyed"

The first signs of success against the invaders were already indicated last week.

The problem from a Russian point of view: The military of the Moscow Kremlin apparently left behind a lot of war material - heavy equipment, weapons and ammunition.

The apparently successful counter-offensive in Kharkiv fuels the hopes of the Kiev government for a turnaround in the Ukraine war.

Meanwhile, however, Russia is also reporting a success in the People's Republic of Donetsk: Denis Puschilin, leader of the Donetsk separatists controlled from Moscow, confirmed an attack by the Ukrainians on Donetsk airport.

According to his descriptions, however, the attackers were destroyed.

The first reports of the attack were already published on Saturday.

Since then, the front between the separatists and the Ukrainian army has passed through the airport, which was destroyed in 2014.

A successful attack by Ukraine would have meant the first advance into the separatist area of the People's Republic proclaimed by Russia.
